Tiered egress pricing exists to make the invoice unpredictable. We ran the numbers on two years of customer traffic and found a flat rate cost us almost nothing — and saved our support team a recurring conversation.
Across all projects, the median month moved under 40 GB out of the platform. The 95th percentile was around 700 GB. A handful of projects moved several terabytes, and those were the ones that had negotiated a contract anyway.
In other words: the tiering table that would have taken a page of documentation to explain applied to almost nobody, and the people it did apply to were not paying list price.
Not the bandwidth — the support load. "Why is this month's bill different" was consistently in our top three ticket categories. After the change it stopped appearing. A pricing page you can hold in your head is a feature.
